Liberty University Computer Requirements

The most important technology that you will need at Liberty University is a computer. Liberty’s IT Marketplace offers several kinds of computers depending on what you want and need for your classes. Liberty has partnered with Dell, Lenovo, and Apple to offer students discounts on computers from all three manufacturers.

General Computer Requirements (On Campus & Liberty University Online):

We recommend the following hardware specifications so that you can comfortably run multiple applications.

Mobile Devices Support (On Campus & Liberty University Online):

You will need a desktop or laptop with a full keyboard and mouse pad. Online course features are not optimized on a mobile device.

Internet Connection Speed (Liberty University Online):

You will need a reliable, high-speed internet connection. Courses are most compatible with Chrome or Firefox.

School of Engineering (On Campus & Liberty University Online):

As School of Engineering uses CAD Software for 3D rendering, they have slightly higher computer requirement standards. "Each student is required to have a laptop, and the laptop configurations viewed at the link below represent minimum hardware and software requirements that enable students to run the core software required by Engineering. Students can choose between a Windows-based or Apple laptop. Typically, Engineering students run into software issues when they use an Apple computer. In almost all classes, the Engineering software requires Windows. Since Apple computers use the same Intel chips, they can be configured either to boot up in Windows (using free software, such as Bootcamp that is provided by Apple) or utilizing VMware Fusion to run Windows in parallel with Mac OS. However, some engineering software used in our department may not perform well under those conditions; a full partition and dual boot environment on the Apple machine is recommended if you choose to use an Apple computer for all of the Engineering software in our program. If you choose to dual boot apple and windows on an Apple laptop, be sure to specify an HDD twice as large (min 1tb)."

School of Nursing (On Campus & Liberty University Online):

General Computer Requirements (as seen above) should be sufficient for computer standards.

School of College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM):

LUCOM Students will receive a computer for their degree. This computer is their personal machine and is paid for by their Computer/Equipment Fee (1st Year Only). This includes computer, LUCOM required software, and clicker. LUCOM Students will take this computer to LUCOM HelpDesk for full support. LUCOM HelpDesk will take care of all repairs. For further support and questions, please contact LUCOM Admissions at (434) 592-6400 or LUCOM HelpDesk at (434) 592-7020.
