How can I print to a network printer from a Mac?

If you need to map a department-specific printer, click the following link: How can I map a department-specific printer from a Mac? (KB0015596)

  1. Begin by downloading the Liberty HP Printer installer using the following link: Liberty HP Printers.pkg (30.7 MB)
  2. Open the installer and click Continue.
    • Upon opening, it should display the window below. If an error occurs about the file being from an unidentified developer, right click (control + click) the file and select Open
  3. Select a destination and click Continue.
    • The destination is usually named "Macintosh HD".
  4. Click Install.
    • This will install the printer drivers and setup the printers.
  5. Type your computer password, then click Install Software.
    • This gives the installer permission to proceed.
  6. Let the installer run.
    • This is where the actual work happens.
  7. The installer is now complete, click Close and then proceed to the next step.
    • The drivers have been installed, and the printers have been set up.
  8. Open System Preferences and click Printers & Scanners.
    • You can find System Preferences by clicking the Spotlight in the top-right corner of your screen and typing "System Preferences". This can also be found in your Applications folder.
  9. Select HP-B&W and click Open Print Queue.
    • This print queue shows your documents as they are sent to the HP-B&W printer.
  10. Click Printer in the menu bar, then click Print Test Page.
    • This will send a test page to the printer to confirm the printer is working properly.

  11. The test page will not send, click the refresh button indicated below.
    • This box indicates that it cannot send the document because it cannot connect without your Liberty email address and password. Please click the refresh button and proceed to the next step.
  12. The following box should appear, continue to the next step.
    • This box automatically fills with your username from your computer, not your Liberty username.
  13. Enter your Liberty username (email address without "") and password, check the box, then click OK.
    • Name: Liberty username (email address without "")
    • Password: Liberty password
    • Check the box for Remember this password in my keychain.
  14. The test page should send properly now, and you should see the following image.
      • This indicates that the document has sent successfully, and is now waiting in the Global Queue for printing at the printer.
  15. Go to an HP-B&W printer, log in, verify the test page appears, then delete it
    • Please go to one of the HP-B&W printers on campus and log in by either tapping your Flames Pass on the card reader, or logging in with your Liberty credentials. Verify the test page "testprint" shows in your queue, select it, then delete it.
  16. HP-Color
    • Please repeat steps 9-15, substituting HP-Color for HP-B&W, in order to connect to the HP-Color printers.
  17. The printers should now be successfully mapped and ready to use.
