LU-LCA Scholarship Program at Liberty University

Updated Policy - Effective 9/1/15

After reviewing the local high school affiliate scholarship programs, Liberty University has made the following changes to the programs effective September 1, 2015:

1. No LU-LCA scholarships will be awarded to students who enroll or reenroll after breaking enrollment at LCA after September 1, 2015, by virtue of attending and graduating from LCA.  Such students will be eligible for Liberty University funded institutional aid and scholarships, and federal and state financial aid, on the same basis as other Liberty University applicants and students.
2. Liberty University will award scholarships to all LCA seniors graduating in May 2016, for fall 2016, enrollment at Liberty University according to the scholarship plans as they existed on August 31, 2015.
3. Liberty University will award scholarships under the 25%/50%/75%/100% scholarship plan to all LCA students who were enrolled at LCA prior to January 24, 2012, and who graduate from LCA in May 2017 and thereafter.  This award is based on the number of grade years a student completes in high school at LCA before graduation from LCA.  It is a 25% scholarship for remaining tuition costs (after subtracting other non-loan financial aid) per grade of high school the student completes at LCA (four years = 100%; three years = 75%; two years = 50%; one year = 25%).  The scholarship percentage is applied to tuition costs after subtracting the Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, and the VTAG awards from the tuition total.
4. For those students who enrolled in LCA from January 24, 2012, to September 1, 2015, Liberty University will award scholarships under the 10%-per-year scholarships plan for each year of enrollment completed between January 24, 2012, and May 2016, (up to a maximum of 50%), with two additional options, one  stackable and one non-stackable.  This award is based on the number of grade years a student completes at LCA before graduation from LCA.  For every grade year a student completes by May of 2016 at LCA, from kindergarten through 12th grade, the student earns a scholarship award of 10%, not to exceed 50%.  With the stackable option, this award is 10% of the tuition total.  With the non-stackable option, this award is 10% of remaining tuition costs (after subtracting other non-loan financial aid).  The options are awardable as follows:

• • Stackable.  If the student stays continuously enrolled in LCA from September 1, 2015, until graduation from LCA, the scholarship will be stackable on top of other Liberty University funded institutional aid and scholarships, as well as federal and state grants, for which they qualify (up to 100% of tuition).
  • Non-stackable.  If the student breaks enrollment at LCA, the student is awarded the scholarship with the existing plan’s condition that the LCA scholarship is not stackable with other Liberty University funded institutional aid or scholarships, or federal and state grants, for which they qualify.

Only one 10% benefit will be awarded for a grade year that is repeated at LCA.  

All other terms and conditions for the award and maintenance of the scholarship under the scholarship plans as they existed on August 31, 2015* remain in effect, including the term that Liberty University reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the scholarship at any time in its discretion, as well as to suspend or terminate the scholarship.

* All LCA scholarship recipients must also meet the following terms and conditions:

• Meet Liberty University admission requirements.
• Have attended Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, VA, graduate from LCA (except for students utilizing only the non-stackable 10%-per-year scholarship), and directly enroll into a Liberty undergraduate residential degree program the fall semester following high school graduation.
• Present a 2.75+ cumulative un-weighted high school GPA upon graduation from high school AND score either a 900+ (CR and Math) on an SAT test taken prior to February 29, 2016, or 980+ (ERW and Math) on an SAT test taken on or after March 1, 2016 ---OR--- present a 2.75+ cumulative un-weighted high school GPA upon graduation from high school AND score a 19+ on the ACT.
• Submit a $250 confirmation deposit.
• Complete the VTAG application for Virginia residents and complete the FAFSA each year.
• Maintain full-time continuous enrollment in the Liberty University residential undergraduate program for at least eight consecutive fall and spring semesters.
• Maintain sufficient satisfactory academic progress for maintaining financial aid and to maintain Liberty University enrollment.
• Pay the percentage of tuition balance (if any), all applicable non-tuition fees incurred (e.g. activity, auto, class, etc.) and any room and board charges on time.
• Be and remain a student in good standing with regard to conduct at LCA.
• Be and remain financially current with their LCA account.
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 each semester while attending Liberty University.  If the student’s cumulative GPA falls below the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50, the student has one probationary grace semester of enrollment using the scholarship to reestablish a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.  If the student is unsuccessful in restoring his or her cumulative GPA to 2.50 or higher with the probationary grace semester, the student forfeits and is not eligible for the scholarship until the semester after the cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher has been achieved.  Under no circumstances will forfeiture of any semester of eligibility extend the time period of eligibility beyond the original eight fall and spring semesters for which the scholarship can be used.
• The scholarship is for prospective Liberty University students only.  Current Liberty University students who did not receive this scholarship upon matriculation to Liberty University are not eligible.
• Except for students utilizing only the stackable 10%-per-year scholarship, the award is not stackable with other Liberty University funded aid or scholarship.
• The award is limited to a maximum of eight consecutive fall and spring semesters.
• Recipients are not eligible for the New Student Book Dollars award (except for students utilizing the stackable 10%-per-year scholarship option). 
• Failure to meet or comply with all of these terms and conditions may result in the forfeiture of any remaining eligibility for the scholarship, which may be appealed by the student to the Financial Aid Office.
• Liberty University reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the scholarship at any time in its discretion, as well as to suspend or terminate the scholarship.

Affiliate High School Scholarship Programs at Liberty University

Updated Policy - Effective 9/1/15

After reviewing the local high school affiliate scholarship programs, Liberty University has made the following changes to the programs effective September 1, 2015:
Liberty University will award affiliate high school scholarships at Faith Christian Academy, Temple Christian School and Timberlake Christian School for students who are currently attending high school as of September 1, 2015 according to the affiliate scholarship plans as they existed on August 31, 2015.  These affiliate high school scholarship programs will end with the awards made for those in the senior graduating class of 2019.  Future graduates will be eligible for Liberty University funded institutional aid and scholarships, and federal and state financial aid, on the same basis as other Liberty University applicants and students. This award is a 75% scholarship for remaining tuition costs (after subtracting federal and state grants).  The scholarship percentage is applied to tuition costs after subtracting federal and state grants from the tuition total.  All other terms and conditions for the award and maintenance of the affiliate scholarships** remain in effect, including the term that Liberty University reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of the scholarships at any time in its discretion, as well as to suspend or terminate the scholarships.
** All affiliate high school scholarship recipients must also meet the following terms and conditions:

• Meet Liberty University admission requirements.
• Have attended the affiliate high school for four years of high school, graduate from that high school and directly enroll into a Liberty undergraduate residential degree program the fall semester following high school graduation.
• Present a 2.75+ cumulative un-weighted high school GPA upon graduation from high school AND score either a 900+ (CR and Math) on an SAT test taken prior to February 29, 2016, or 980+ (ERW and Math) on an SAT test taken on or after March 1, 2016 ---OR--- present a 2.75+ cumulative un-weighted high school GPA upon graduation from high school AND score a 19+ on the ACT.
• Notify Liberty University by March 1 of the student’s senior high school year by returning the complete Scholarship Certificate and submitting the $250 confirmation deposit.
• Complete the VTAG application for Virginia residents and complete the FAFSA each year.
• Maintain full-time continuous enrollment in the Liberty University residential undergraduate program for at least eight consecutive fall and spring semesters.
• Maintain sufficient satisfactory academic progress for maintaining financial aid and to maintain Liberty University enrollment.
• Pay the ¼ balance of tuition balance, all applicable non-tuition fees incurred (e.g. activity, auto, class, etc.) and any room and board charges on time.
• Be and remain a student in good standing with regard to conduct at the affiliate high school.
• Be and remain financially current with their affiliate high school account.

Policy Rationale

On Friday, September 4, 2015, Liberty University announced important changes to its Local High School Affiliate Scholarship Programs. These programs are being phased out at the end of the current academic year.

 

Definition of Glossary Terms

Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP): Students must meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements to receive federal Title IV aid that includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work Study, Federal TEACH Grant, and Federal Direct Education Loans (Student, Parent PLUS, Grad PLUS, and IASG).  Liberty University also applies the SAP requirements to monitor eligibility for all institutional aid.  The Virginia Commonwealth programs are administered under the guidelines from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
Resident student: A student that takes classes on campus.
Scholarships: Financial aid that does not have to be repaid. Scholarships may be received from Liberty University or an external organization. In order to be eligible for Liberty scholarships, the student must have a complete FAFSA on file annually.
Undergraduate student: A Liberty University student who has not yet completed a bachelor's (four-year) degree.

Sanctions

Failure to meet or comply with all of these terms and conditions may result in the forfeiture of any remaining eligibility for the scholarship, which may be appealed by the student to the Financial Aid Office.
Liberty University reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of any scholarship at any time at its discretion, as well as suspend or terminate any scholarships.
