FINANCIAL AID REPEAT COURSEWORK POLICY
Federal regulations limit the amount of federal aid that can be used when repeating a course that has previously been passed with any grade higher than an ‘F’. If a student earns a ‘W’ or ‘F’ in a course, the student can continue to repeat the course paid with federal aid so long as they are meeting minimum Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements. Once a grade of ‘D’ or higher is earned for a course, students can only repeat the course one more time (if a grade is earned) and use federal aid to pay for the course.
Note: If the student passes a course with a grade of ‘D’ or higher, repeats the course, but withdraws from the course, that is not counted as the allowed repeat. If the student passes a course the first time and repeats, but fails the course, they cannot retake the course again and use Title IV aid to pay for another repeat.
Most Liberty Institutional aid is also subject to the Financial Aid Repeat Policy.

Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) - Students must meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements to receive federal Title IV aid that includes the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work Study, Federal TEACH Grant, and Federal Direct Education Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized, Parent PLUS, and Grad PLUS). Liberty University also applies the SAP requirements to monitor eligibility for all institutional aid. The Virginia Commonwealth programs are administered under the guidelines from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
Title IV - The portion of the Higher Education Act (HEA) that includes most of the federal financial aid programs.
Every account is reviewed through an internal reporting process to determine federal aid eligibility for repeat coursework. The Repeat Enrollment with Aid report is run on a weekly basis to ensure a student’s eligibility is reviewed in a timely manner. This process applies to every academic level – undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate.
If a student repeats a course that is not eligible for federal aid, a recalculation of aid is completed to exclude the credits for the repeated course.
This rule applies whether or not the student received aid for earlier enrollments in the course.
All repeated courses affect Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress calculations. A repeated course, along with the original attempt, must be counted as attempted credit hours. All students must successfully complete 67% (66.669% will not be rounded) of cumulative attempted hours by the end of each term.
Academic Amnesty Program:
Federal regulations require that the student’s complete academic history be included in the evaluation of Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress. Therefore, the Academic Amnesty Program at Liberty University cannot alter the academic history reviewed for Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress.
