Policy Language

Liberty University publishes an online version of the academic catalog one time per academic year. Updates to the catalog are made as changes occur during the academic year. The regulations, programs, courses, personnel, and costs listed in the catalog are subject to change after publication of the online catalog through established procedures. In the event of a discrepancy between a print on demand hard copy of the academic catalog where an online version also exists, the online version of the catalog takes precedence.

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he or she is using the correct catalog. If there is any question regarding which catalog to use, students should consult an advisor. Prospective students should use the most current catalog.

The University reserves the right to change the calendar, fees, and degree program requirements, rules regulating University admissions, registration, graduation, and any other regulations affecting the student body without notice. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research reserves the right to edit the catalog as necessary. Changes shall go into effect whenever the proper authorities determine and shall apply to current and prospective students.
Catalog information and policies are subject to change and implemented without prior notice.

Policy Rationale

Liberty University complies with standards 10.1 and 10.2 of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement by publishing an online academic catalog, which serves as a principle policy document. Information in the catalog relates primarily to curriculum requirements and matters relating to academic policies and procedures, as well as general guidelines for enrollment and degree completion. Furthermore, the catalog includes the official academic calendar, information and policies relating to tuition and fees, financial aid, and academic and student services.

Liberty University also complies with standard 10.3 of the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement by providing online access to archived catalogs from the 2009-2010 academic year to the present in the online catalog website. Printed catalogs from the 1971-1972 academic year to the 2013-2014 academic year are housed in the Jerry Falwell Library archives. Digital copies of printed catalogs are available on the Jerry Falwell Library digital collection website.

Procedural Information

Procedures

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research makes  updates to the catalog that include changes to curriculum requirements, policies, fees, faculty roster, and general information. The Registrar’s Office provides updates to the Transfer Credit Matrix and Admission Requirements Matrix. Program of Study record information and graduation requirements are edited and maintained in the CourseLeaf curriculum tool. Course data are drawn from the Banner system that is managed by the Registrar’s Office. Faculty data are sourced from multiple databases maintained by Human Resources as well as Colleges and Schools.

Curricular items are reviewed and approved by the appropriate department, college or school, and the University curriculum committees, receive final approval by the appropriate Provost Office, and then incorporated into the catalog, Banner System and Degree Completion Plan audit. Non-curricular items by external entities are entered in the academic catalog and are effective only after appropriate approval is received.

The appropriate catalog section content editor must approve catalog information not approved through the legislative process by submitting a Catalog Revision Form (CRF) indicating approval to catalog@liberty.edu.

Deadlines for revisions to the academic catalog are published on the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research web page.
